Hey everyone,
Things are going well here at the Field Artillery School.
I have finished my second month of my five month course. I have covered topics from basic Army organization to manual gunnery. I started off by learning a basic call for fire which is used to send the location of a target to a fire battery. Without actually getting into too much boring details of angle T and polar missions, we are learning the tasks of a Fire Support Officer. The major responsibility of a FSO is to coordinate fire support with the maneuver (Infantry, Armor or scouts) Company Commander.
One of the most enjoyable times that we had was when we went out to a range and fired some M119 105mm Howitzers. Here is a picture of me in the gunners’ position. I love the smell of cordite and the feel of the concussion on your chest.
I have also found out where I am going from here. Julia and I are going to Germany. Baumholder, Germany to be precise. I am going to 4 Battalion -27 Field Artillery. It is part of the 2 Brigade (BDE) of the 1st Armored Division (1AD). They are a M109A6 Paladin Battalion. It should be pretty awesome. I have not had any time around that system but I will.
Well I hope to hear from you all soon.
