My civilian shoes are once again on for this post.
Right now, during this election time, the President has among the lowest approval ratings of his presidency. I say, SO WHAT! Since when is it the responsibility of the President to be “popular” in the publics eye? His responsibility is to execute the law regardless of whether people like it or not. Children naturally don’t like it when their parents are disciplining them and the citizenry naturally don’t like authority. If parents treat their children according to how their children “like” them, then the children will have no respect for the parent’s authority. Therefore they will become selfish and develop a habit of destructive behavior as adults. Now if the President were to make decisions based on the flavor of the week polls, then he is not being faithful to the majority of voters that put him into office. If he worries about going back to Crawford Ranch with a 70% job rating, then he is not going to be executing his job effectively. The leaders of this country need to stand by their convictions.
If the President begins to pander to the new Democratic majorities in the House and Senate just to hike his polls by demonstrating "bi-partisanship," he will have left his convictions behind and abandoned his constituents. I say, "Mr President. Stay true to why people voted for you. Don't bow to the politics of the left."
